Crofton Beam Engines For those who have never been to see these magnificent engines, well here's a treat in store. Ian Broom a member from Crofton Society has agreed to give the MSRVS members a first class insight to this truly wonderful Pumping Station.  Situated on the Kennet and Avon canal.  The   building was constructed in 1809 when a 36" cylinder bore engine was installed. The second engine (which now is No1 ) built by Bolton and Watt  began pumping  in 1812 this engine had, by the way had an increase in bore size to 42" with an 8ft  stroke  driving a 30" bucket, the amount of water displaced after each operation is no less than 1ton!  Don't miss it make a date in your diary to find out more.

Monday 16th August
A completely different subject tonight, it has absolutely nothing to do with model engineering. However since practically every one of us drive a motor vehicle of one sort or another. The following illustrated talk will benefit us all. By the end of the evening the presentation will make us more aware of the ever present dangers that are lurking on our congested roads.
Mr  Sheppard  from the accident and investigation  team has very kindly agreed to come along to give the Society in-depth the reasons why so much time and effort is spent by the Police solving why or how traffic accidents happen.

May 2010 From David Steel, I am planning to visit a Steam Event in Holland for the second time in May this year which I think could well be of interest to other MSRVS members. The event takes place in Dordtrecht, near Rotterdam in alternate years and goes under the name Dordt in Stoom. Being based on and around the harbour at Dordtrecht it offers a very different experience from steam events in this country. As well as the usual "land based" type steam engines and trains there is a large selection of different types of boat (most steam driven) plying the harbour. Trips can be taken on these to either see the activities from the water or to get from one part of the event to another. On land there are varied displays and trade stands to be seen as well some unusual (typically Dutch?) entertainments.
History in Harmony run a trip to Dordt in Stoom which I have booked on again this year. As well as taking in the steam event it offers an itinerary that includes several visits to a number of other places of interest. Attached is a copy of this itinerary.
If you agree that this event would be of interest to MSRVS members perhaps you could post the information on our website and/or email it directly to members with email.
ANYONE INTERESTED PLEASE CONTACT ME (CHRIS WARD) IN THE FIRST INSTANCE.
